The following tips are enjoyable ways to save energy

Go on a great holiday and defrost your freezer at the same time. If the layer of ice on your freezer element is just 2mm thick it will increase your energy consumption by 10%. So defrost your freezer twice a year by switching it off and placing a bowl of warm water inside the freezer compartment. You can also remove any dust that has built up at the back of the freezer at the same time.

Go to the pub with a group of friends. That way you can save energy at home while you hang out in the pub with your gang. While you are there, see if you can find a hot date. Research has shown that couples use far less energy than singles…

Draw your curtains as soon as it gets dark. This will keep the neighbours out and the heat in.

Leave the washing up. You use the same amount of water for a small pile of washing up as your do for a large pile of washing up. So make better use of your time – and save water.

Research has shown that mood lighting encourages people to touch one another more! So put fewer lights on, use low watt (energy-efficient) light bulbs or a dimmer switch (without a transformer!) and set your visitors ablaze.

Hot air rises. So even if your room is warm, you might still have cold feet. If this is the case, wear slippers!

If you are cold, put warmer clothes on rather than turning the heating up.
