There are a few easy things you can do to reduce your energy consumption. You can buy the materials you need from a DIY store and in most cases you will save more than you spent in less than a year.
Fit low-energy light bulbs wherever you use lights frequently or for extended periods. Low-energy light bulbs use up to six times less electricity and last ten times longer than conventional light bulbs. So you will quickly recoup any money you spend. |
Hang a thermometer in your room. That way you can see if the thermostat (or thermostat -controlled tap) is set to the right setting and if it really is as hot or cold as you think. |
Install radiator foil behind the radiators. The foil will reflect the heat back into the room. That way you will need less heat. If a radiator is installed on an outside wall, radiator foil can save a considerable amount of energy. |
Keep an eye out for hidden energy consumption. Plug appliances into a single multi-socket extension lead with an ‘On’-‘Off’ switch. Appliances with an adapter or transformer continue to use quite a lot of energy when they are on stand-by mode and even when they are switched off. If you plug them into a single multi-socket extension lead with an ‘On’-‘Off’ switch, you can switch everything off in one go. This will immediately reduce hidden energy consumption. This is especially handy for your computer and printer for example. |
