De Veste envisages a future in which people are entirely free to choose where they want to live, who they want to rent from, and how much they are prepared to pay for the level of quality they opt for. Only then is there a chance that we will see the emergence of a transparent public housing market – a sector which since its inception has been characterised by, among other things, a lack of transparency and very little freedom of choice. De Veste believes that local and national policy makers have an important role to play in creating development opportunities for housing corporations. The potential of the hybrid structure can be used to the advantage of society. Yet the desire for power can completely override this. Housing corporations can make a point of being transparent and accountable in society. This will make them more acceptable as a partner. The fact that people involved in property have a natural tendency to put private interests first can stand in the way of this. Local success depends on a balance between commercial and social gain and healthy control. De Veste sees itself as a wide-ranging property organisation with strong local anchoring that is capable of achieving this balance. De Veste is, in a manner of speaking, “Always in the neighbourhood.”

Our vision – Good housing is a matter of civilisation. Seen from a global point of view the standard of housing in the Netherlands is high. De Veste is aware that people prefer to make their own choices when it comes to the price and quality of their accommodation. Where this is not possible, De Veste offers a helping hand.
